{ back to work & a sneak peak }

I’ve been MIA since early last week.  I’ve been hanging out in a Tennessee cabin with my family, my parents, and my brothers family eating turkey.  We always celebrate Thanksgiving prior to actual Thanksgiving week and  I’m not sure why or when we started this tradition, but it works.  We all go to a meet up — (usually near the Smokey Mountains National Park) and hang out for a few days.  Its something we look forward to each year and I’ve just returned from this years trip.  And while the weather was crummy with a capitol K, we had a blast (in part thanks to the TRICKED out cabin we stayed in — pool table, movie theater, hot tub — THANKS mom and dad!!!). I had to share a couple of snapshots from the trip that were taken during the 43.2 seconds it wasn’t raining!!

So the first picture shows how bill and i got our nicknames.  We spend quite a bit of time looking for salamanders under rocks and old wood — and my clever nephew came up with “Aunt Sally” and “Uncle Mander” for us.  So true to our names, we dug around in the national forest looking for sallymanders — but it had been WAY too dry and they were all tucked far underground– not a single salamander to be found on the surface!  The second picture is of my parents and all their grand kids - they are all so darn cute.  I did this shot at a session this summer and knew i wanted one of my parents!  And finally the last shot– my boy and my girls.  yum.

******************************************************************************************

And now i owe a sneak peek from the weekend before last!  I met a super great family with their almost one year old daughter last Sunday.  And, well, since we discussed the weather pertaining to my trip — i cannot leave it out how mean the weather was to us at this session!  Well… it was dark.  i don’t mean that it was cloudy, it was D.A.R.K and windy and dreary and cold.  And well — look at the face on this sweet angel — you’d NEVER know it!  She was all smiles and such a joy!!!!!!

i LOVE how it looks like she just told the punch line to a very funny joke!

and LOOK at those eyes.  just wow, huh?

and smiling with her grandparents!

I hope everyone had a great week and weekend!  I’m back full swing with lots of deliveries to make so if you are waiting, i’ll be in touch with your order ;)

{ 4 weeks new }

I had the pleasure of working with a lovely family in West Virginia last week.  Their tiny little angel was so sleepy and so sweet, even at 4 weeks old!  Any of you who have kids know that babies have usually ‘woken’ up and practiced announcing their presence quite a bit by 4 weeks old!!!!!  She was so comfy and snuggly and sleepy.  We got many great shots of her sleeping…. and i’ll show you one i reallllly love of her awake ;)

and i had to include the last on in my post — to thank her grandmother for being SUCH a good sport.  She big time earned her spot on my blog (and they know what i mean ;).  Thank you all for inviting me to meet your family and your gorgeous daughter and i’ll have your images to you soon!

{ farm life }

Life on the farm…  Chickens running around, roosters boasting, cows meandering about, the barns, the fences, the tractors… Every time i’m on one, it makes me want to live on a farm.

The C family is living it.  All of it.  How fun, huh? (well, i suspect there is a TOUCH of work involved).  I had  to share a couple of shots, including a couple their animals managed to get in.  And little man L, the first shot’s for you!!!!!! ;)

{ NRV Cares }

I posted a week or two ago how much i appreciate the Blacksburg community.  The people here are so amazingly wonderful ang giving…

NRV Cares is an organization i was happy to work with last spring.  NRV CARES is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to protecting children from abuse and strengthening families through education, advocacy and community partnerships.  They put on an annual shindig  called the NRV Cares Spring Gala and Auction to raise money for their organization, and i was more than happy to donate a session and print credit to support thier mission.  However, it was the first donation i had made with my business, and well — i was MORE than a bit worried about people bidding on my donation.  WHAT IF no one wanted the session?  WHAT IF it went for nominal money?  All the silly things that go though your head…

Well, instead of my fears being realized, i was in awe of the support and generosity of the Blacksburg Community.  The donation behind my auction item was considerable, and was one of MANY sizable donations made that night to support families and children in our community.

I had the honor of shooting this session last weekend.  It just so happened that the family who got it, are friends of our family and people for which we have tremendous respect.  I was honored to shoot this session, and you don’t need me to tell you how beautiful their daughter is….

And if you are interested in learning more about NRV Cares, please visit their website by clicking the link — there are several ways you can help support them, support our community!  And thank you so much to the parents of Miss A for your support, and for sharing your family with me!

{ perfect }

Brand new babies are just perfect.  Perfect toes, perfect ears, perfect little fingers, perfect little fuzz.  One of the perks of my job is that i get to spend time with families when their babies are simply perfect, and brand new.

Here is my latest little brand new sweet boy.  He was 9 days old when i met him.  And i think storyboards are fun, so i’m sneak peeking his images in a storyboard!  Thanks to his mom and dad for letting me share such special time!

Hope you all have a wonderful halloween — i’ll share some photos of the kids.. and the adults as we have a costume party to go to as well.  Should be FUN and hopefully FUNNY too!

{ family of 5 }

anyone who really knows me, and i mean really knows me — knows that the thought of being outnumbered by kids in my own family scares me!!!!!  my family is complete at 4 members, and for many reasons, we’ll remain a family of 4.  but at pretty close to the top of that list is a fear of being outnumbered by kids and the chaos i predict that would result at my house :) (ha — i make it sound like there isn’t chaos with 2 kids!).

well, after meeting this family of 5, my theory of chaos due to being outnumbered simply doesn’t hold true! seriously — the 2 older brothers were so insanely polite & patient of me, their little sister, each other… the Y Family had a calmness and togetherness that puts my family of 4 to shame!!!!  it was a pleasure spending time with them last Sunday afternoon and here are a few of my favorites from their session!

I love the candid and quiet nature of this family portrait…

sweet brothers and the setting sun!

and beautiful Miss M!  she had a touch of a cold, but was SUCH a trooper!!

Thank you for allowing me to share these pictures — and more sneak peaks coming soon!  I had a busy week shooting, and will have lots to share!  Up next will be a yummy newborn!!!

{ thanks, coach }

One of the things i love about Blacksburg is its wonderful sense of community, and the amazing people who participate to create that community.  My oldest has been playing soccer (with NRUSA)  since the spring before her kindergarten year and we’ve been really fortunate to have wonderful coaches — all who donate their time to work with our kid’s.  Well, this season, we hit the JACKPOT with our coach.  He’s a father of FIVE kids, a professor at VT, and still has time (well, probably MAKES time ;) ) to be an amazing soccer coach.     I took pictures during a game on Saturday and practice last night, and though i’d share a few… and Thank You Coach for all you contribute to our kids and the Blacksburg community!

Oh — and the kids get to select the name of their team.  and their team color is Maroon.  so… guess what name they selected?  wait for it……… wait for it…………    (its at the bottom of this post, so i am gonna make you wait for it)

So i hope all of you are enjoying your fall as we are!  and GOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOKIES!!!!!!!

{ before you go… }

This past weekend, i also had a session with the oh-so gorgeous M kiddo’s.  and i tell you, we had so much fun! both B and M seemed to enjoy having their picture taken and playing with me, which always makes my job so much easier (not to mention FUN!).  Anyway, their parents are surprising them with a vacation tomorrow (lucky ducks, huh???).  i should have asked if they needed a vacation photographer to accompany them… humm… destination photography…. “will work for vacation” has a nice ring to it ;)

ANYWAY  I i wanted to share a couple of images before they hopped on a plane in the morning (and HAVE FUN guys!!!).

{ the L family }

OOOhhhhh what fun the L family is… they are a family of 3, with a little man B who has as much energy as i could ever dream of having!  He was so fast — so fast to run over and give hugs to me, walk backwards to hug his parents, to dash back to me for another hug!  ::repeat::  ::repeat again::  i LOVED it!

Here are a few shots from our time together, i hope you all enjoy them!

and this last one KILLS me!  the caption should reah “hey lady, what do you want me to do next???”

{ appreciate }

i’m lucky that my job and my life fit so well together.  its by design, i realize, but i still feel lucky…

its my last year with S before she goes to school.  and with C being 2 years older, i have an understanding of what that means… so many changes come with starting school.  so i’m trying hard to drink up my time with S home.  But last monday, i worked a bit on the only weekday that S has off of school.  She decided that she’d play with chalk on our side patio while i worked.  When i saw what she created, it almost made me cry.  reminded me to ’step away from the computer’ and go have a drink of her ;).  So i asked if i could take a picture of her creation.   Here it is….

after i snapped a couple of her with the patio, i asked her to take a couple of face shots.  she said no.  i bribed her with Pirate Booty.  asked if i could take 3 shots.  and this shot was one of them….. gaaaahhhh i love her.

*********************************************************************

Later last week, i had the pleasure of working with the G family!  We played hard and got silly, and our session really reflects that!  But in the spirit of the title of this post {appreciate} i wanted to share a couple of ‘moments’ from their session.  those everyday moments, that carry so much beauty.  first is of their son simply walking on a path… buy you can almost hear him talking to himself.. making plans as to what he, and his stick will conquer next…

and then of his little sister.  simply eating a banana sitting on the kitchen table.  but she is so beautiful in this moment, i just had to share.  banana and all ;)
